St Lawrence of Rome

This is a miraculous story of St. Lawrence in a certain time in history.

After the death of Sixtus, the prefect of Rome demanded that St Lawrence turn over the riches of the Church. St. Ambrose is the earliest source for the tale that St Lawrence asked for three days to gather together the wealth.[3] He worked swiftly to distribute as much Church property to the poor as possible, so as to prevent its being seized by the prefect. On the third day, at the head of a small delegation, he presented himself to the prefect, and when ordered to give up the treasures of the Church he presented the poor, the crippled, the blind and the suffering, and said these were the true treasures of the Church.[4] One account records him declaring to the prefect, “The Church is truly rich, far richer than your emperor.” This act of defiance led directly to his martyrdom. He was slowly burnt to death.

The true treasures of the church as St. Lawrence presented I feel means in our lives not just for the church needs to follow, but we need to.

I saw a big difference before and after I had strokes how people treated me. I can only imagine what they do other people. Actually, I do know some are horrific.  I told them I’m no different than before I am the same person that I am. But they only go by their own judgment which is sad.

Going back to St. Lawrence one Emperor put him to death, another built a church over his burial site in honor of him. That church became one of the seven principal churches in Rome and a favorite place for Roman pilgrimages. That was the Emperor Constantine. Who actually was converted to the faith this tells me anything’s possible. With God anything is possible.
